Project Objective
To install and test equipment designed to monitor traffic at remote locations and wirelessly communicate the data to a central monitoring center.
Project Abstract
Monitoring traffic with mounted cameras at static sites can provide a Traffic Operations Center (TOC) with information and data regarding specific intersections or locations. However, in rural areas and smaller cities, the ability to move cameras to monitor traffic situations, for example, large sporting events, or to suspected problem intersections, allows a TOC to monitor traffic where the need occurs most on any given day. This project will install and test equipment, on a modified sensor trailer that includes cameras armed with machine vision processors (MVP) and will serve to complete and deploy traffic monitoring cameras, sensors and other field elements in the greater Bozeman area, including the University.
Task Descriptions
- Development of a User Manual
- Because the trailers were custom-built for the Civil Engineering Department, a comprehensive user manual related to their set-up, usage and maintenance will be written.
- Final Report
- Write a final report summarizing the project.
- Install, Troubleshoot & Test Equipment
- The primary components of each system are two Autoscope Cameras for data acquisition, a Motorola Canopy 900 MHz wireless device to communicate with the central monitoring center and various supplementary items mounted to a solar powered trailer with an extendable mounting pole.
