Project Objective

To provide support for the development of new routes and a schedule for the Snow Express transportation system in Big Sky, Montana, and assist with the development of a Transportation Development Plan (TDP).

Project Abstract

This will be the third year that WTI has worked with the Big Sky Transportation District to help improve the efficiency of Snow Express, the transportation system that operates in around the Big Sky community. WTI will help evaluate the current routes and schedules and develop new ones to accommodate increasing transportation needs. WTI will also help the District to develop a Transportation Development Plan.

Task Descriptions

  1. Survey customers and non customers of the Snow Express system to determine the level of satisfaction
    1. Responses to the customer satisfaction survey will be compared to results from the previous survey completed for the District by WTI.
  2. Develop a schedule including routes to serve the needs of the Big Sky community
    1. WTI will interview various Big Sky residents and will conduct two public meetings in Big Sky to help determine the routes and schedules that will be most useful to residents. 2.1 Initial draft: After evaluating the past routes/schedules and ridership data, WTI will draft a new set of routes with a schedule. 2.2 Initial public meeting: An initial public meeting will be held to get public input on proposed routes and schedules. 2.3 Route/schedule revision: Based on public input and input from the District, WTI will revise the routes/schedule as necessary. 2.4 Final public meeting: The revised routes and schedule will be presented at a second public meeting for a final review.
  3. Assist the District in the development of a Transportation (Transit) Development Plan
    1. WTI will assist the District as it works with the Montana Department of Transportation to develop a TDP.
  4. Evaluate past routes and schedules to determine system effectiveness and efficiency
    1. WTI will analyze data such as the number of users to determine the effectiveness of past routes and schedules.
